JOB SUMMARY:
The Registered Nurse is accountable for the assessment and planning of resident care needs, delivery of skilled procedures, medication administration and documentation in accordance with quality management, legislative requirements and the organization standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (but not limited to):
-Provides for nursing care in accordance with established policy, physician’s orders, and resident plan of care within the scope of practice. Utilizes sound nursing practice principles to ensure delivery of excellent nursing and personal care on the assigned home area(s).
-Conducts ongoing communication with families to inform them of changes in resident health status.
-Provides direction and guidance to team members and acts as a resource person in areas of specialization, and provides follow-up and support for educational programs offered.
-Plan, direct, supervise and evaluate the work of personal care staff assigned to the unit. Orient and train new personnel and may participate in in-service education. Monitor performance and refers problems to the director of care.
-Identifies priorities, target dates and strategies and interventions in order to contribute to the individualized care plan that achieves the best possible outcomes for each resident.
-Staff replacement in the absence of care clerk.
-Take charge of the facility in the absence of the director of care.
-Assist in preparing the facility for RAI MDS.
-Performs other duties as assigned.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS (but not limited to):
-Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario
-Minimum of one year related clinical experience
-Successful annual completion of RAI MDS certification as per Ministry of Health requirements for AIS
-Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification
-Bachelor of Science – Nursing (BScN), Bachelor of Nursing (BN), or equivalent
-Post Graduate Certificate in Nursing Leadership and Management preferred
-Post Graduate Certificate in Acute Complex Care preferred
-Experience dealing with the cognitively impaired
-Certificate in Gentle Persuasive Approaches (GPA) in Dementia care preferred
-CPR certification
-Demonstrated commitment to working with seniors
-Comprehensive knowledge of nursing and health care practices, as well as knowledge in infection control practices
-Ability to work effectively individually and with others while prioritizing tasks to handle the most urgent first
-Ability to present information clearly and effectively both verbally whether in person or over the phone, and in writing; an active listener who projects a friendly demeanor
-Ability to collect and use information to thoroughly think through problems and situation; puts information from various sources together to see the ‘big picture’, and generate creative solutions
-Organizational, planning, time management and multi-tasking skills
