Job Overview
Full-time, permanent employment as an Art Layout Designer at Diamond Engraved Inc.,
with 33.80$ per hour/ 35 hours per week,
- you will play a vital role in bringing our customers' visions to life. Your artistic flair and meticulous eye for detail will ensure that every memorial stone we create is a timeless tribute.
Qualifications
- College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 years in Graphic Design, Fine Arts, or related field
- Min 2 years of experience creating layouts for the memorial industry
- Min 3 years of experience working as a graphic designer
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Autodesk 3ds Max, Adobe Freehand, Corel Draw, AutoCAD, Adobe Suite, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop)
- Experience with AI generative tools such as Midjorney, with a thorough understanding of requests language for desired results
- Familiarity with ticketing systems (e.g., Jira) and job processing systems (e.g., Kanban board)
- Understanding of media limitations, including stone, and how to prepare images for optimal engraving results
- Skill in feature exaggeration technique for increased contrast and detail
- Ability to identify optimal cropping and aspect ratio based on stone size and adjust editing techniques based on granite quality and colour
Soft Skills
- Customer interaction for layout creation and adjustments
- Cultural awareness for headstone layouts across religious and ethnic communities
- Effective communication with customers using culturally appropriate language and tone
- Coordination with sub-contractors and shop floor technicians
- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment
Responsibilities
- Create sketches, layouts, and graphic elements
- Develop graphics that align with clients' objectives
- Apply filters and transitions to replicate engraving on black granite
- Use existing photo and illustration resources and typography guides
- Estimate material costs and time for graphic designs and illustrations
- Supervise other graphic designers or graphic arts technicians
- Adapt existing illustrations as needed
- Produce 2-D and 3-D animated drawings or computer illustrations
- Work in a multidisciplinary environment
- Consult with clients to establish the overall look, graphic elements, and content of communications materials
- Determine the medium best suited to produce the desired visual effect and the most appropriate vehicle for communication
- Collaborate with our sales and production teams to create personalized art layouts for memorial stones
- Transform customer ideas and concepts into visually stunning designs
- Ensure designs meet the highest standards of quality and craftsmanship
- Provide revisions and modifications based on customer feedback
- Work closely with our engraving and packaging teams to ensure accurate execution
