Our comprehensive paid summer internship program is crafted to provide students from all backgrounds with an impactful non-profit work experience, fostering a deep understanding of the sector. Our program is dedicated to equipping students with hands-on experience and sector knowledge needed for their future careers while making meaningful contributions to our organization. Interns at Make-A-Wish Canada have the opportunity to work in their preferred areas of interest, on significant projects alongside industry leaders.

WHERE YOU COME IN

We are looking for a Summer Intern to join our Marketing & Communications team at Make-A-Wish Canada. We are looking for a driven, energetic, and creative student who enjoys collaboration, writing, and who is eager to gain experience and new skills within the communications field in a non-profit.

This role can be based out of Pickering or Toronto (North York) and is a summer internship at 5 days (37.5 hours) per week, Monday to Friday, on a hybrid schedule.  The expected start date for the successful candidate is June 3^rd, with the position ending at the end of August.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Working under the direction of the Manager, Corporate Communications, and working closely with the Central Ontario Communications Specialist, assist the National office with writing & updating compelling wish stories & bios for a national fundraising event that shows a wish child’s journey.
• Once written and approved, input wish stories and images into Canva templates and ensure they are filed/tagged appropriately.
• Brand training will be provided.
• Other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU BRING

• Pursuing post-secondary education in a relevant field (public relations, communications, journalism, as examples).
• Previous Communications experience is an asset.
• Excellent writing and storytelling ability, while adhering to brand guidelines.
• Strong communication skills.
• Attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Must be able to work effectively to meet set deadlines.
• Ability to prioritize your workload and handle multiple requests.
• Comfortable in working with other team members and wish parents to gather information, if required.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Teams, Canva.
• A clear Criminal Background Check will be required.

YOUR WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Working in a hybrid work environment with a minimum of two days in office and 3 days working remotely in a home office environment.

Physical/Mental Effort

• Works with multiple demands and changing/overlapping priorities.
