The Office of the Attorney General is a part of the Department.

The mandate of the Office of the Attorney General is to promote the impartial administration of justice and to ensure protection of the public interest. The Office of the Attorney General includes the Legislative Services Branch.

The Department is seeking an individual to join the Legislative Services Branch as a lawyer in Fredericton.

What you will do
The successful candidate will convert government policy into legislation. The work will include the drafting of the French version of public acts and regulations within a co-drafting system, the provision of legal opinions with respect to legislative proposals and general advice, opinions and counsel related to acts and regulations to government departments and agencies.

Work environment

  • Location: Chancery Place, 675 King Street, Fredericton, NB. In certain circumstances, the Branch may approve remote work, at their discretion.
  • Standard hours of work: Monday - Friday, 8:15-4:30

Need to have (their essential skills and qualifications)

  • Law Degree
  • Completion of Articling
  • Membership in good standing or eligibility for membership with the Law Society of New Brunswick

Candidates with less than 8 years of membership in good standing at the bar will be considered. Please state your date of admission to a Canadian Law society.

Successful candidates will be required to undergo a criminal history clearance and security clearance check.

*Applicants are required to submit with their application a French writing sample of no more than five pages that they have authored within the last five years. Written and spoken competence in English and French is required. Please state your language capability.

Candidates must demonstrate on their applications how they have acquired the education and experience for this position. Your resumé should be in chronological order specifying education and employment in months and years including part-time and full-time employment.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: The following operational requirement is also required:

  • Working outside of regular hours of work without prior notice.

  • Legislative drafting experience within a government setting

Subject to the response to this competition, candidates may be required to demonstrate on their application the asset qualification in addition to the essential qualifications in order to be given further consideration.

Wage
$57,954 ¿ $109,096 annually, depending on education and experience.
