Our comprehensive paid summer internship program is crafted to provide students from all backgrounds with an impactful non-profit work experience, fostering a deep understanding of the sector. Our program is dedicated to equipping students with hands-on experience and sector knowledge needed for their future careers while making meaningful contributions to our organization. Interns at Make-A-Wish Canada have the opportunity to work in their preferred areas of interest, on significant projects alongside industry leaders.

 

WHERE YOU COME IN

We are looking for a Summer Intern to join our Development team in our New Brunswick chapter at Make-A-Wish Canada. We are looking for a driven, energetic, and resourceful student who enjoys collaboration, logistics, and who is eager to gain experience and new skills within the fundraising field in a non-profit.

 

This role is based out of Saint John, NB and is a summer internship at 5 days (37.5 hours) per week, Monday to Friday, on a hybrid schedule.  The expected start date for the successful candidate is June 3rd 2024 with the position ending August 2nd.


WHAT YOU WILL DO

Working under the direction of the Chapter Director and working closely with the Development Officer and the local team, the Summer Intern will assist the chapter with fundraising & wish delivery tasks, with a focus on event support and donor stewardship.

 

Development                                                                                                        

  • Develop a comprehensive list of Funeral Homes in NB in order to enable us to build relationships with Funeral Homes across the province to promote MAWC as a charity of choice for memorial gifts.
  • Connect with every Funeral Home to assess supplies and respond to needs.
  • Support our Third-Party events – solicit auction items, post-event follow up.
  • Assist the Development Officer with donor stewardship.
  • Execute on the community club campaign (Rotary, Lion’s Club) by sending letters of asks to each club.
  • Support with the HMCS Fredericton Ride for Wishes.

 

Wishes

  • Prepare wish boxes for delivery to wish kids & their families.
  • Assist with wish presentations at the office.

 

Administration

  • Inventory the supply room.
  • Brand training will be provided.

Other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Pursuing post-secondary education in a relevant field (public relations, marketing, sales, business management, communications, fundraising or events).
  • Previous customer service experience is an asset.
  • Must be between 18 and 30 years of age (requirement of Canada Summer Jobs funding).
  • Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or refugee to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (requirement of Canada Summer Jobs funding).
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to work effectively to meet set deadlines.
  • Ability to prioritize your workload and handle multiple requests.
  • Comfortable in working with other team members and wish parents to gather information, if required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs and Teams.
  • A clear Criminal Background Check will be required.


YOUR WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Working in a hybrid work environment with a minimum of two days in office and 3 days working remotely in a home office environment.

 

Physical/Mental Effort

  • Works with multiple demands and changing/overlapping priorities.
