You will be required to join the Canadian Army Reserve to be employed in this position.

This is NOT a civilian position.

Cooks prepare nutritious food items and meals for Canadian Armed Forces members and National Defence employees.
Their responsibilities are to:
• Prepare and serve meals that range from cafeteria-style menus to formal multi-course. meals for military and civilian dignitaries.
• Assist in the handling and control of food and non-food supplies.
• Practice workplace health and safety procedures.
• Provide for Religious and Spiritual dietary accommodations.
• Manage food safety and Defence.
• Operate, clean, and maintain food services equipment and facilities. A Cook may work in a variety of environments within Canada, or overseas on deployments.
Reserve Force members usually serve part time at a Reserve Force Division in their community and may serve while going to school or working at a civilian job. They are paid during their training. They are not posted or required to do a military move. However, they can volunteer to move to another base. They may also volunteer for deployment on a military mission within or outside Canada. As a reservist, you will work one night a week, one weekend per month during the September to April timeframe. There may be opportunities for more employment throughout the year however that is not guaranteed. We offer full time summer employment, beginning 1 May until 31 Aug, this is a great opportunity for students.
All successful applicants will be required to complete the Basic Military Qualification course (BMQ), either part time, (Friday to Sunday every other weekend for 11 weekends) normally held between September and March or full time in the summer (Monday to Friday) for 5 weeks.

Upon completion of the Basic Military Qualification Course, the successful applicant will be required to attend the Cook Development Phase One course at Canadian Forces Base Borden for a period of 11.5 weeks during the summer months. Followed by an 8 week on the job training package the following summer.
